When you are a Indo Chinese food lover , recepies like these are special. Have you ever tried the gravy version of Mushroom Chilli ? It’s a super side dish for chapatis and fried rice.

Serves: 4


For Marination:

  • Mushrooms: 2 cups
  • Plain flour: 3/4 cup
  • Corn flour: 3 tbsp
  • Ginger garlic paste: 1 tbsp
  • Kashmiri Chilli powder: 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder: 1/4 tsp
  • Black pepper: 1 tsp crushed
  • Salt: as required

For Gravy:

  • Onions: 1 cubed
  • Capsicum : 1 cup cubed
  • Garlic: 1 tbsp finely chopped
  • Ginger: 1 tsp finely chopped
  • Celery : 2 tbsp finely chopped
  • Spring onion greens: 2 tbsp finely chopped
  • Soy sauce: 2 tbsp
  • Tomato sauce: 1 tbsp
  • Red chilli sauce: 1 tbsp
  • Vinegar: 1 tsp
  • Sugar: 1 tsp
  • Corn flour: 1 tsp
  • Salt: as required
  • Oil: 4 tbsp


  • Chop the mushrooms into halves or quarter pieces.
  • Marinate with the ingredients listed above for 30 mins.
  • Heat oil in a wok, deep fry the battered mushrooms till golden and crisp. Drain and set aside.
  • Heat oil in a pan, add celery, ginger and garlic. Toss for few seconds.
  • Add cubed onions and capsicum, toss on high flame for 2 to 3 mins.
  • Add some salt and crushed black pepper, sauté and add the sauces. Mix well on low flame.
  • Mix 1tsp corn flour in a cup of hot water, add this to the gravy .
  • Cook till the gravy thickens.
  • Finally add the fried mushrooms and mix to coat well in the gravy.
  • Sprinkle spring onion greens on top to garnish.
